Hello, NYC fall

Ten years ago today I married the love of my life on a beautiful autumn day that, of course, I remember as if it were yesterday. I had a guess that it would be the happiest day of my life (it was), but what I didn't know is that happiness with Fernando would be greater the more years we were married (not less, as some would have us believe). Nor that I would love him more every day. Literally. So today is a special day that we'll celebrate in a special way. At afternoon we rented a car for a weekend getaway to the Hudson Valley, a beautiful area of postcard-perfe[...]

Bye, NYC Summer

There've been crazy heat days, weeks of overcast skies and many summer thunderstorms. I read the other day in The New York Times that this has been the second wettest summer in the city's history. A tropical storm, a hurricane and many thunderstorms (the kind you only enjoy if you get caught indoors) seem to have prepared us for a life of thrills and spills here. But it's summer after all, and summer has to be squeezed to its last days. Even more so if you're in New York City.Do you remember the beaches I told you about when we went to Coney Island? The intentions[...]

A Day in Brooklyn

The good thing about knowing that we're going to live long in New York is that we are not in a hurry to see this, visit that or try those things  "you can't miss" in this city. Because there were places I was eager not that much to discover as to return to. With time and without haste. And Brooklyn was one of those. Surely you know Dumbo and that street photographed a thousand times with the brick buildings framing the Manhattan Bridge in the background -hotspot of influencers- but that's only the famous face of one of the most vibrant and charming neighborhoods[...]

September in New York

September is my very favorite month. I like everything about it: its new beginnings, its weather, the light introducing fall, the one that makes everything more beautiful. Fernando and I got married in September: this 24th will be our 10 anniversary. So this September 2021, in New York, will be truly special. It's already starting to feel like the new season, and Fall in New York (just by saying it sounds good) is something unique. We were living here back in 2017 from September to November and I was eager to see this city again dressed in all possible shades of ye[...]

Henri’s visit to New York

You could call it a tropical storm but it pretty much remainded me of a summer storm, one of those that looks like the sky is going to fall but only for a while. Henri hit hard on Saturday in Manhattan, but not as hard as my Family feared from Spain when they say the news there. They got relaxed once I sent them some videos. The thing is that over the weekend we canceled plans and lunch with friends because of the alerts on my cell phone. I'm still trying to get used to those notifications with that alarming sound that scare me to death (we don't have those in Spai[...]

Roosevelt island sundays

Settled in. Finally starting our New York routine. Coffee from our coffeemaker, first laundry in our building, first Sunday slow breakfast, opening the fridge to look up for something to eat. That feeling of stability and tranquility after so much newness and change since we arrived. A feeling we were so looking forward to. On Sunday, NYTimes and pancakes A stop in our Way to Central Park because, what's this cutie? I'm writing this post from my new desk in the studio we finished s[...]

Home, sweet (NYC) home

And finally, at home. After almost a month (26 days to be precise) since our arrival in New York, we were so looking forward to settling into what will be our new home in this amazing city. Entering last Saturday into our apartment was one of those memorable moments that we'll keep. It was being aware that the dream became reality, that we were really living in New York City.   Doing so in an apartment completely empty, without a single piece of furniture, gave it an extra thrill and charm. Let me put this into context: several years ago, when[...]
